News: Topical : Iraq exports 1st Oil cargo
Reuters reports that Iraq has exported its first cargo of crude oil from its second new Single Point Mooring (SPM) floating terminal in the Gulf .
A tanker named “A Whale” left the terminal with a cargo of of two million barrels of crude oil destined for India’s state-run Indian Oil Corporation.
News: Topical : Brazil braced for real ale taste
Celebrated Yorkshire brewers Theakston believes its award-winning ales could be a potential winner in locations such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. It has begun a serious investigation to see whether the company can tap into this potentially huge market.
The hope is to sell its bottled rather than cask beers into this South American giant.
We have been informed that all legalisation fees must be paid for by Postal Order. Exporters will be required to submit PO to the Chambers prior to documents being process through the ABCC.
News: LIBYA LATEST - Legalisation Resumes
The Chamber has been advised by the Arab British Chamber of Commerce that the Libyan Embassy in London will resume its legalisation service from 30/03/2012.
All documents can only be submitted through the Chamber and the ABCC for normal certification and legalisation. We are advised that at present there are no changes in fees or the requirement for translation.
News: Iraq - Latest -Certificate of Conformity Programme
The Chamber has been advised officially by the Arab British Chamber of Commerce that they have been informed by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq that goods entering Iraq will require a Certificate of Conformity. Such Certificates of Conformity can be obtained from Bureau Veritas, as SGS will no longer be able to issue such Certificates of Conformity as from 5th March 2012.
In the absence of a Certificate of Conformity a letter of indemnity, on company headed paper will need to be verified by the ABCC, and this will be required for each shipment requiring legalisation.
The wording of such letter will be as follows:
We the undersigned have undertaken the necessary checks for conformity requirements and we confirm that the shipment covered by our Certificate of Origin No……………………….and Invoice No…………………………… does not require a Certificate of Conformity as directed by COSQC.
This applies to all documents received by this office on Friday the 2nd of march 2012
Please note a verification and administration charge of £21.00 + vat will be applicable.
We are also advised that these rules will apply to Certification only documents as well.

News: Bahrain - FCO at 03/05/2012
Demonstrations and protests continue across various parts of Bahrain, some of which are violent. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office cannot confirm where or when any such activity or resulting disruption will take place, but travellers should maintain a high level of security awareness, exercise caution, particularly in public places and on the roads, and avoid large crowds and demonstrations.
News: Japan - FCO latest 03/05/2012
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office advise against all but essential travel to those areas in north-east Japan most affected by the 11 March earthquake and tsunami. This includes those coastal areas of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures which suffered extensive damage.
The FCO advise against all travel within a 20km radius of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, and the additional exclusion zones outside this 20km radius.
News: ATA Carnet - Chamber changes to BAC's system
Exporters are advised that the Chambers ATA Carnet system has now moved over completely to the BAC's system for payments of Issuing fees and Deposit Fees. The level of carnet users using cheques has dropped considerably - whilst the level of users using the BAC's system has increased to nearly 100%. BAC's has proven a more efficient method of payment rather than cheques or bank drafts.
News: Egypt - FCO at 03/05/2012
There is a high threat from terrorism throughout Egypt, including in Sinai. Security is tight throughout the country, especially in resort areas. There is a high risk of indiscriminate attacks including public places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers, including but not limited to resorts, hotels and restaurants.
British nationals should avoid all crowds and demonstrations. The situation can change rapidly and the FCO recommend that you follow events on local and international news and seek advice from tour operators and local authorities.
Due to the significant increase in the risk of criminal activity in the North Sinai area, the FCO advise against all but essential travel to Sinai north of the Suez-Taba road.
When driving outside cities local security authorities may request that you travel in convoy. You should comply with these instructions. You should avoid travelling with unlicensed tour operators and should not travel around Sinai by road after dark.
